Run a Local Group
What is the purpose?
The UsabilityNet project seeks collaboration with local groups
mainly for two reasons:
- to spread information about the project to the usability community
- to get the community's input on the project website and its
contents, in order to provide efficient and relevant support to
practitioners
What kind of local groups can collaborate with the UsabilityNet
project?
In principle, any existing group can liaison with the project,
but UsabilityNet wil also encourage and support the forming of new
local groups.
Existing local group
In many countries, there are established associations concerned
with human-computer interaction and usability. Examples of existing
organizations are ACM-SIGCHI, the Usability Professionals Association
(UPA) and Den Norske Dataforening (special interest group Brukervennlige
IT-systems). Any established local group is encouraged to contact
the project to participate as a collaborating local group, representing
their country or region.
New group
For countries and regions where there is no existing local group,
UsabilityNet can support the forming of such a group in order to
reach new usability communities.
What is asked of a local group?
For the duration of the project, the local group will contribute
to the development of the website by stating their professional
requirements, and contributing contents when possible.
The group will also be asked to hold at least two meetings a year
to promote the benefits of usability and user centred design to
an audience that includes practitioners, and agree to advertise
the initiatives and resources provided by UsabilityNet to their
members via email, printed material or meetings as appropriate.
What's the benefit to the group?
During the project, the group will receive ongoing information
about pan-European activities with regard to usability. There will
be possibilities to network with other local groups and to have
speakers attend meetings to share their expertise on different topics.
The most important benefit is however the opportunity to help
shaping what will hopefully be a powerful resource for usability
practitioners across Europe and the rest of the world.
